The History of Wertman Farm
The Wertman Family Farm has been in operation for 4 generations. The farm, which was originally located in Colonie, was moved to Melrose to allow the business to grow and prosper in the country setting. We have dedicated years of hard work in trying to build up the business in a new location, which has not been an easy task! We now realize that this was the best decision for the Wertman Family Farm.
Mid-February we start seeding and planting in our greenhouses in preparation for our retail flower season which opens in the spring. Mid-summer, when the flower season has ended, we remain extremely busy in the fields preparing and selling vegetables for the wholesale market.
There is a noticeable difference in buying flowers and vegetables from growers vs. the big box stores. Everything from when to start each planting down to the temperature of the greenhouses is taken into consideration. The constant care and maintenance we provide, along with high quality seed and plants is what produces a winning combination!
We feel the reason for the continued years of success is simple: We love what we are doing and strive for having the highest quality products available for our customers.
